A Journey Through the Highs and Lows
Hello, my lovely readers! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I know I’ve been MIA these past few months, and I’m so sorry for that. I couldn’t show up as much as I hoped to in the last few months of 2024 because, honestly, life’s taken a huge turn during this time. While I’m thrilled to be back with you all, I want to take a moment to explain why I went quiet for a bit.
So, grab your favourite drink, get comfy, and let’s catch up on all the ups and downs of the last few months of 2024!
The First Transition: My First Job
Where do I even begin? Well, for starters, I landed my first full-time job last year in the month of November as a merchandiser at Seven01, a business aggregation company operating within the garment industry. And let me tell you – this new chapter has been both exciting and incredibly demanding! Moving into the garment industry has been a dream come true for someone who’s always had a deep love for fashion, but it also meant that I was juggling multiple responsibilities and learning a ton on the go.
My role involved curating collections, collaborating with influencers, and working closely with designers, which has been such a rewarding experience. One of the first projects I worked on was curating my very first collection for Zero1Finds, a test project focused on sustainable fashion practices. I even had the chance to go on my first-ever work trip to Delhi, meeting industry professionals and diving deeper into the world of fashion and merchandising. It was exhilarating, but also a lot to handle all at once.
The Second Transition: From Merchandiser to Systems and Process Specialist
Life has a funny way of showing us that sometimes, things don’t go as planned – and that’s perfectly okay. While I started off as a merchandiser, my superiors and I soon realised that maybe the role wasn’t the perfect fit for me long-term due to a lack of expertise in certain areas.
Over time, I found myself more drawn to the operational aspects of the job – systems, processes, and the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly. After some reflection (and a lot of learning!), I was given the opportunity to switch gears and take on a new role within the same company as a Systems and Process Specialist.
This transition taught me an important lesson: it’s okay if we’re not great at or passionate about a certain role. Sometimes, we need to explore different positions or even change jobs to figure out what resonates best with us. And that’s not failure, it’s growth!
Challenges Along the Way
Now, let’s talk about the struggles. The biggest challenge? Trying to navigate the complex world of markets and finding the right manufacturers. One of my key projects ended up being put on hold because of time constraints, and I wasn’t able to execute all the exciting plans I had lined up with some amazing designers.
On top of that, for nearly two months, my routine was practically non-existent. Everything felt like it was spinning out of control. The transition to a full-time job was a huge adjustment, and keeping up with my content creation had to take a backseat. While I managed to push through and wrap up Season 1 of the SL 24 Podcast, I stopped posting here and on YouTube.
Honestly, it felt like my whole year of working from home had been turned upside down. Finding a balance between my work, personal life, and passion projects became one of the biggest hurdles I had to face during this time.
Lessons Learned
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the power of balance. It’s okay to hit pause on certain things in life when you’re adjusting to something new because life isn’t linear or perfect. For a while, I felt like I was failing because I couldn’t keep up with everything, but the truth is, sometimes you just need to shift your focus and take things one step at a time.
While my job has been a big part of my life these past few months, I’m now learning to carve out time for my other passions again. Slowly but surely, I’m finding a rhythm that works best for me.
Self-Care: Getting Back to Me
One thing I let slip while being so focused on my job was my self-care routine. I stopped prioritising my morning walks and exercise, and honestly, I completely overlooked my hair and skincare routines, and I could feel the impact on my physical and mental health. My energy levels were low, and I just wasn’t feeling like myself.
But now, I’m making a conscious effort to get back on track! I’ve started prioritising my health again, one step at a time. I’m slowly getting back into walking everyday, meditating every morning when I wake up, reading more, and trying to cut down on junk food (although this one is still a work in progress – your girl is trying!). I’m also making more time for my loved ones, especially for my mom because I realised how much I’d missed being present for her.
Looking Ahead: 2025 Blogging Goals
So, what does 2025 look like for me? Well, I’ve decided to set more realistic goals for myself when it comes to my blog and content creation. Instead of trying to post every week, I’m aiming for two (or possibly three) blog posts a month. I’ve come to terms with the fact that weekly blog posts might not be feasible right now, but that’s okay. I’d rather focus on quality over quantity, and that’s what I’ll be doing in 2025.
Plus, with my SL 24 Newsletters going out twice a month, I’ll be sharing more exclusive content through those. So if you haven’t already, make sure you sign up! This is going to be my way of balancing things better and being more consistent with my writing.
And That’s a Wrap!
So there you have it, my loves – a glimpse into why I went MIA and how 2024 shaped me in ways I didn’t expect. Thank you for your patience, your support, and for sticking with me through it all. Life is full of transitions, and I’ve learned that it’s okay to embrace them, even if it means stepping back for a while.
I can’t wait to see where 2025 takes us, and I’m so excited to continue this journey with all of you! Here’s to growth, balance, and a year full of new adventures.
