Hello, my lovely readers!

Welcome back to our monthly Feature Series on SL 24, and this August, I’m incredibly excited to introduce someone whose creativity, grace, and authenticity are reflected in everything she does.

Meet Remarkable Lyngkhoi – fashion designer, entrepreneur, co-founder of WEE Fashion House, and a woman whose journey through style and self-expression is as inspiring as her name.

We sat down for a heartfelt conversation about her roots, her brand, and her beautiful perspective on fashion as something far deeper than just clothing. From childhood memories and artistic beginnings to building a brand that caters to petite women with timeless flair, this feature is for everyone who finds joy in creativity, elegance and meaningful design.

So, let’s dive in.

A Childhood Full of Creativity

Shradha: Can you tell me a little bit about who you are, your roots, where you grew up, and what your childhood was like?

Remarkable: Hello! My name is Remarkable Lyngkhoi, and I’m a fashion designer and entrepreneur. I’ve always had a deep love for fashion, crafting, painting and journaling, anything creative that lets me express myself.

I grew up right here in Shillong, and honestly, I had the kind of childhood I’ll always be grateful for. It was the pre-internet era – no smartphones, no Wi-Fi, no social media. Just real moments, real friendships, and a whole lot of imagination.

After school, we were always outside, playing or hanging out at friends’ homes until the sun went down. We didn’t have much in terms of material things, but we got creative. We made up games, we improvised, and we found joy in the simplest things.

One of my favorite memories is playing dress-up with my friends. We’d mix and match clothes, create characters, and spend hours experimenting with looks. Those moments were magical. And now, looking back, I think they were the earliest signs of my love for fashion.

It was a true millennial childhood – fun, raw, honest, and it’s shaped the creative spirit I pour into my work today.

Craft Over Classrooms

Shradha: What was your academic and creative journey like? What led you into the world of fashion?

Remarkable: To be honest, I wasn’t the most academic student. I used to get a lot of complaints about being absent or not finishing homework. I just couldn’t connect with traditional studying, it never excited me. I remember sneaking in craft materials during class and working on them because that’s where my heart was.

My grandmother was the first person to teach me how to sew. I didn’t enjoy it at first, but there was this one moment in Class 7 I’ll never forget. I cut up one of my mom’s old jainsems and made tiny doll dresses out of it. That was the start.

I loved drawing, too. I had a small group of friends who shared the same passion, we’d spend hours sketching outfit ideas.

I completed my schooling at Christian Academy, followed by studying Arts at Seven Set Higher Secondary. After that, I explored a few diploma courses in fashion design, though I didn’t end up finishing all of them! Eventually, I found my footing and pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design at the Symbiosis Institute of Design. That’s where things really took shape. During my final project, my partner and I even won Best Accessories Collection, a huge milestone for me.

The Birth of WEE Fashion House

Shradha: Let’s talk about WEE Fashion House. How did it all start, and what does it mean to you today?

Remarkable: Fashion was always something that came naturally, it wasn’t something I was pushed into. It was just part of who I was. As kids, my sister Charity and I loved experimenting with clothes and helping others style themselves. We could spot trends before Pinterest even existed.

WEE is a reflection of that – a calling, really. Something God-given. It’s our art, made for wearing and uniquely yours. What does WEE mean? Wee is you. Wee is me. Wee is us. We are WEE. Thanks to our family’s support, especially our dad’s financial backing that made it all possible.

We first envisioned WEE back in 2008, but it wasn’t until I graduated in 2019 that we decided to go all in. My sister and I spent all of 2022 researching, sourcing and refining. We officially launched in 2023.

Our brand focuses on ready-to-wear collections for petite women, because we’ve personally experienced the lack of good options. Our pieces are timeless, tailored, and thoughtfully designed, from cropped blazers to elegant co-ords.

We also take custom orders, and stepping into bridalwear and bridesmaids’ dresses really challenged us in the best way. Today, WEE stands for more than just fashion, it’s about creating a conscious difference, offering timeless, flattering, well-made clothes that women feel amazing in.

Shradha: What does a typical workday look like for you?

Remarkable: Most days start in our workshop. We’re always a few collections ahead – sketching, draping, refining ideas. The creative part is where I feel most at home.

But running a business means juggling both the art and admin. I’m still learning the ropes when it comes to things like client management, accounts and coordination. It’s a constant balancing act.

We also recently launched a training center, and I now teach illustration, design and pattern-making. Teaching wasn’t something I expected to love, but it’s become a part of my purpose.

Proudest Moments with WEE Fashion House

Shradha: What’s been your proudest moment so far with WEE Fashion?

Remarkable: One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been seeing how our work helps people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. As designers, we’re not just creating clothes, we’re part of special moments in people’s lives. Whether it’s an event, a celebration, or just an everyday outfit that makes someone feel good, knowing that our pieces play a role in that is incredibly fulfilling.

Another milestone that means a lot to me personally is being able to share my passion with aspiring designers. Teaching young creatives who are just as passionate about fashion as I am has been unexpectedly rewarding. I never planned to become a teacher to be honest, but now that I get to guide and inspire others through our training center, it feels like one of the most meaningful parts of what we do. It’s a full-circle moment, turning what I love into something that helps others grow too.

Remarkable’s Signature Aesthetic

Shradha: How would you describe your personal style?

Remarkable: I would say I’m quite experimental, but no matter the look, it always has to feel clean, feminine and elegant. Some of our WEE collections draw from boho vibes, others are more structured or glam.

I personally enjoy moving between aesthetics. But one thing always stays the same – the focus on clean, high-quality, well-made pieces. My favorite? Definitely the cropped blazer. It’s so versatile. You can wear it with heels and trousers or dress it down with jeans and sneakers. It’s one of those timeless staples.

Favorite Brands & Styling Tips

Shradha: Can you share your favorite brands, accessories, or styling tips with us?

Remarkable: Definitely! I love H&M and Zara for their neutral tones and silhouettes. But these days, I mostly wear WEE, especially for events, nothing beats wearing something that’s yours.

One of my go-to tricks is to start with shoes. It sets the mood for everything else. Whether it’s heels, boots or sneakers, once I’ve chosen the shoes, the rest of the look falls into place naturally. After that, I layer and accessorise. Some of my go-to accessories are earrings, belts, handbags, and when I want to feel fancy, a fedora hat!

For anyone building an elegant wardrobe, my advice would be to invest in versatile pieces like a great blazer, neutral-toned trousers or a timeless co-ord set. Pieces you can rewear and restyle endlessly.

Beyond the Outfit

Shradha: What does fashion mean to you, beyond just style?

Remarkable: Fashion, to me, is identity. It’s healing. It’s storytelling without words.

Especially in today’s world, people aren’t just wearing clothes – they’re wearing their personality, their culture, their values, their emotions, and even their stories. Calling it “a form of expression” feels like an understatement. What someone chooses to wear can tell you so much: how they’re feeling, the kind of music they like, where they’re headed, or who they want to be in that moment.

Fashion gives people a voice without needing to speak. It’s deeply emotional, too. For many, dressing up becomes a way to cope with anxiety, low self-esteem or even depression. It offers a moment of escape, a chance to reimagine yourself, and to step into the version of you that feels strongest, happiest or most true.

I believe fashion gives people the freedom to reinvent themselves, every single day.

Shradha: Lastly, what advice would you give to someone who’s just starting their fashion journey, either as a designer or someone building their personal style?

Remarkable: My biggest piece of advice is to stay curious and never stop learning. Creativity doesn’t come with a rulebook, there’s no right or wrong way to express yourself. Whether you’re sketching your first design or figuring out how to dress in a way that feels true to you, knowledge is everything. Learn about fabrics, silhouettes, fashion history, body types, styling tricks, anything that deepens your understanding will only make you better.

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Fashion is personal, and creativity doesn’t thrive inside a box. Try out your ideas, mix things that don’t traditionally go together, and let your personality shine through your work or wardrobe. Ignore the noise that tells you what’s “practical” or “trendy.”

If an idea speaks to you, explore it. That idea came to you for a reason, and you’re the only one who can bring it to life. So if you don’t create it, who will?

And finally, stay grounded. Be open to feedback, respect the craft, and remember: growth takes time. Passion and consistency will take you further than perfection ever will.

Until next time…
